September 5th, 2014
 Next Saturday, the band will not have a mini camp, but will report to the band room by 1:00pm ready to practice for the competition that evening. The band room will be open at 12:30 for students to be in place for rehearsal at 1:00pm. Do not arrive before 12:30pm, because of the ACT testing going on at the high school. A full schedule for next Saturday is attached.

 Next week in preparation for the first competition of the year, the band will practice on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:50pm until 7:00pm. The band will also be practicing on Friday from 3:50pm – 7:00pm. All practices will end promptly at 7:00pm. No sectionals next week. Guard and percussion practices will be the same except for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday which run until 7:00pm next week.

 The band’s first competition of the year will be the Powdersville Competition/ Clinic at Powdersville High School near Greenville. Call time (in place and ready to practice) for all students is 1:00pm. The full schedule for Saturday is attached. Band students will be wearing full uniform for this contest including: Black band shoes, full length black socks, and white gloves. (we will give out these next weeks) students will receive white jackets and shakos (band hats) at the competition.) Students should have all hair up under their hat and wear no visible jewelry while in uniform. Students will wear band shirt and lightweight shorts under their bibbers. The Colorguard will receive all instructions from Adam Faircloth.

 September 27th – Boiling Springs Competition – we host and perform at the end .
 October 4th – Irmo Competition
 October 11th – BOA Competition @ Wake Forest or USBANDS in Mount Airy, GA
 October 18th – Upper State 2A/4A – We host and perform twice, afternoon and evening.
 October 25th – East Lincoln Competition (near Charlotte, NC)
 November 1st – SCBDA State 5A Championships at Irmo High School, Columbia
 Boiling Springs Christmas Parade – Usually 2nd Saturday in December- TBA

Schedule for Powdersville Contest

The Band’s 1st Contest/Clinic of the year is Saturday, September 13th @ Powdersville High School near Greenville; S C. Students should have all music learned, horns polished and attitudes ready for this contest. Band members will wear full uniform for the contest. All hair must be pinned up or braided, with no hair hanging out. No visible jewelry, or earrings, is allowed. All band members are required to wear their band t-shirt and light weight gym shorts under their uniform. Band students will wear black bibbers and band shirt when not in uniform. * Guard members will get all uniform instructions from Adam Faircloth. The schedule for Saturday’s contest at Powdersville is as follows:

Contest Schedule for September 13th
12:30 pm – Band room open for students to polish instruments & set –up equipment.
* Do not drop off students at band room before 12:30pm because of the ACT testing going on at the school!!

If you plan to do hair, polish instrument/ cymbals, tune drums, work on flags, you should be at band room in enough time to finish task. All guard members and pit members should be set up on field by 1:00pm, so that practice may start on time.
12:30pm- Band room open
1:00pm – Call Time – Students should be ready to practice
1:00pm- 3:45pm – Practice, band starts in parking lot, Colorguard starts in band field lot and Percussion starts in stadium at 1:00pm. Band joins percussion at 1:45pm in stadium; guard joins band and percussion at 2:30pm. All Large cases that are going on the bus need to be brought to the stadium so we can load after practice.
3:45pm – Load equipment, band members dress into bibbers, band shirt, black socks and shoes & eat dinner (dinner provided by boosters) (Buses arrive at 4:15)
4:45pm or ASAP – Load Buses
5:15pm or ASAP – Leave for Powdersville High School
6:00pm – Arrive at Powdersville High School
6:00pm – 6:50pm – unload equipment, bathrooms & dress into uniforms
6:50pm – 7:50pm – Band warms- up, band should be in line at 6:40pm
6:50pm – 7:00pm- Breathing and Physical warm-up
7:00pm- 7:20pm – Brass with MacDonald, ww’s with Smith/Cooper
7:20pm – 7:35pm – Full Band with Smith/Macdonald Drum Majors in Circle
7:35pm- 7:50pm- Full Band with Battery Percussion
7:50pm – Band in line and moves to gate, front ensemble leaves at 7:45pm for gate
7:55pm – Band at gate. (Staging)
8:00pm- Perform! After students perform they will go back to buses, pack up their instruments/flags/ hats and return to stadium with staff/chaperones in two lines.
8:30pm – Awards
9:00pm or ASAP– Depart for Boiling Springs
10:00pm or ASAP Arrive in Boiling Springs

Please wear A RED Band t-shirt, park in the back parking, entrance off of McMillian Rd, post the letter V on a piece of paper and place on your dashboard. You will also need to sign-in at the volunteer tent, which will be located across from the band room. Thank you for signing up to help out!!!

I still need Adult volunteers for the following areas and times:
1-Hall Monitor 5:00-8:45
4-Spector Parking 6:00-10:00…you will get to see the kids perform at 9:00
4-Concessions 6:00-10:00…you will get to see the kids perform at 9:00
1-Handicap Assistance- Golf Cart pick-up 6:00-10:00you will get to see the kids perform at 9:00

I also need 2 Alumni to help Tour Guide the last two bands, our kids will be practicing for their performance. 7:00-8:30

Juniors (only) Dismissed at 5:30 Monday

Juniors attending the ring ceremony will be dismissed at 5:30. Practice will end at the normal time with sectionals afterwards.

News for September 3, 2013

Pizza/ Cookie Dough Fundraiser – All Pizza and Cookie Dough Fundraiser items can be picked up next Wednesday, September 11* from 3:30pm – 5:00pm at the high school band room. I will need parents to help unload and sort items at 1:30pm next Wednesday.

Friday – Home Game- September 6th – Call time is 5:30pm in band room! Wear Summer Uniform of Red Band Shirt, Black Shorts, Tennis shoes and white socks. Students should be ready to be picked up around 10:00pm. Band Room will close 30 minutes after game ends.

The Saturday, September 14th Minicamp times have been changed to 8:00am- 4:00pm. Students will be fed lunch. This practice will help the band get ready for the competition season.

September 28th – Boiling Springs FOB – Band will have a mini camp that morning from 8:00 -12:00 noon. The band will perform at the end of the competition. Call Time for Performance: TBA

October 19th – SCBDA Upper State Competition – We host and will perform twice.
